Nostell Miners Welfare 2-1 Yorkshire Amateur
Hero Liam Owen returned from suspension to head Nostell Miners Welfare to a stunning victory over promotion-chasing Yorkshire Amateur.
The priceless win brings them level on points with FC Bolsover and Worsbrough Bridge and it completely erases the memory of the disappointing performance at Glasshoughton Welfare last week.
Owen’s brother Jack, the energetic forward, gave Nostell an early lead from the penalty spot. What made the win even more remarkable was the fact Haydn Ward and captain Liam Radford had to go off injured in the opening half-hour.
Ash Flynn then equalised for the Ammers and that’s how it remained until the 71st minute.
The last time the hero Owen featured for Nostell, he was sent off for handling the ball from his own team’s corner. This time he kept his hands down as he headed home a deep corner.
The Ammers hit the crossbar as the final whistle. Ultimately Nostell held on to boost their survival bid.
