Promotion-chasing Selby Town returned to winning ways, thanks to captain Ryan Gothard’s second half bullet header.
Christian Fox’s brilliant young Selby side overcame Hallam 2-1 to move above Shirebrook Town and jump up to fifth.
The fans continue to flock back and 125 watched them pick up their 14th league win of the campaign.
They had to wait until the second half for the opening goal, which arrived through Liam Flanagan’s strike after a great pass from Jordan Snodin.
Hallam equalised straightaway, but Selby were able to have last word.
Selby’s top goalkeeper Paul Hagreen also earned his corn with a fantastic save at the end, preventing a Hallam equaliser.
Had a trip over to Selby to watch this game as a neutral, a terrific game & well done to the Robins, but fortunate to get the win. A draws the very least Hallam deserved but for the Selby keeper & poor finishing Hallam could have had this game wrapped up. Finishing was the difference. i must say i thought the officials were poor, couldn’t keep up with play and missed the clearest penalty I’ve seen for a long time. you say a young Selby team but Hallam seemed to have quite a few too. A smashing match with two very good sides who want to play the right way. although still games left to get in the play offs if either dont make it i can see both these sides going for automatic promotion next season.
Best of luck to both.
Never In a million years a penalty blatantly outside the box if you watch the replay
I have been informed from a very good source that there was the slightest touch on the ball before the player, maybe that is what the ref also thought.
