The referee at the centre of the Selby Town bar fracas last week has apologised to the club over his role in the incident.
It is understood that Selby’s ubiquitous secretary Tommy Arkley received an email on Friday morning from the official in question who said sorry for any offence caused. It is believed Selby are now treating the matter as closed.
The incident happened after the 3-2 defeat to Grimsby Borough last Thursday – a match which saw Selby’s play-offs hopes go up in smoke. The referee gave a controversial penalty in the game before being involved in a tense exchange with Selby’s chairman Ralph Pearse before leaving laughing at everyone in the bar.
Witnesses have admitted they feared it was going to turn into a scene out of a wild west film.
At least Selby received a big lift on Tuesday night, despite the 3-1 defeat to Campion as all three match officials bought raffle tickets.
There was even more scenes of jubilation when they also spent an extra pound each by having a go on the blind card.
Apologised for what, being an idiot in the bar after the game, which at some other grounds and different people could of seen him seriously hurt, or apologising for the unbelievable decisions that he called during the game, personally I would like to see Michael Brownsett face some kind of disciplinary action, as if a player had done same to him in bar, I’m sure they would be facing some kind of action, and as for him officiating another game at selby, well let’s hope not, not sure what he has against the robins, but I’ve never seen a more biased official against one team. The decisions he and his team of assistants called through the game were laughable and unacceptable at any level
