Devonte Morton got a hat-trick as all signing and dancing Garforth Town romped to a 4-2 victory at Nostell Miners Welfare.
Morton starred in Garforth’s best performance of pre-season ahead of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division opener at Bridlington Town on Saturday.
Nostell were way off the pace and it will be of concern to joint managers Jason Dodsworth and Simon Houghton with the season’s beginning looming.
Garforth, whose inspiration leader, captain marvel James Beaston, pulled the strings, were straight of the blocks as Morton headed them in front within a minute.
Danny Critchlow equalised for Nostell before half-time, but that was the best it got for the home side as Morton struck twice in the second half – with a Matthew Johnson own goal sandwiched in between.
Under 19s prodigy Alex Haigh scored a consolation for Nostell.
Stocksbridge Park Steels enjoyed the feel-good factor after running riot at Nostell’s Division One rivals Worsbrough Bridge with a 6-0 demolition.
Luke Mangham and Scott Ruthven got doubles. Tom Charlesworth and Alex Wiles also scored.
Nick Black got Division One champions Knaresborough Town’s winning goal at Steeton.
Luke Harrop’s hat-trick earned Eccleshill United a 4-0 win at Beeston St Anthony’s.
