NCEL Review: Jamie Williams scores late winner for Glasshoughton at Maltby

Maltby Main 2-3 Glasshoughton Welfare

Jamie Williams lifted Glasshoughton spirits ahead of the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round showdown with Knaresborough Town by scoring a late winner for them at Maltby.
Jon Miles got the response he needed after the Handsworth drumming and Del Pollock gave them the lead after 50 minutes.
Liam Royles equalised, but Pollock quickly fired them ahead for a second time. A draw seemed likely after Lee Jordan levelled for Maltby Main towards the end.
However, Williams struck so Glasshoughton are up and running for the 2014-15 campaign.

Retford United 1-1 Garforth Town

Referee Liam Jones gave a controversial last minute penalty which saw Liam Wilkin score the equaliser for Retford.
Jones had an interesting night. He had also bizarrely ruled out a Liam Smith own goal, for offside, that would have drawn the home side level earlier on (see video from two minutes onwards).
Garforth, who had a host of players yellow carded, had taken a first half lead from Glen Wood’s goal-of-the-season contender strike.

Tadcaster Albion 4-2 Nostell Miners Welfare

Tadcaster survived a scare against Nostell as Darren Holmes’ men were leading 2-1 at half-time.
Strikes from Matthew Johnson and Will Hayton put Nostell in front and Tadcaster were only in the game because of a Calum Ward penalty.
Tadcaster had to wait until the 57th minute to equalise through Josh Greening.
Greening then quickly fired Taddy ahead and Ward sealed the points later on.

Thackley 1-1 Handsworth Parramore

Mike Garrod responded quickly to Handsworth’s 50th minute goal from Sam Smith to earn Thackley a point at home.

Heanor Town 2-1 Pickering Town

An 89th minute Robbie Hawkes own goal meant Pickering Town started the new campaign with a defeat.
Tony Hackworth’s early strike gave Pickering the lead at the big-spending outfit.
Pickering were in front until the hour when former Harrogate Railway midfielder Sam Jones equalised.

Parkgate 2-1 Armthorpe Welfare

Craig Fletcher’s late goal earned Parkgate their first win of the season.
Adam Lee had given Armthorpe an early lead, but Fletcher scored twice for Parkgate.

A 94th minute penalty Alex Cusack earned Albion Sports their first win of the season at newcomers Cleethorpes Town.
Delroy Facey went on a mazy run inside the box and was upended by an Owls defender leaving the referee with no choice but to point to the penalty spot.
The spot kick was duly put away by Cusack sending the away fans into raptures.

Worksop Town 5-3 Liveredge

Liversedge are going to plug the gaps in their defence quickly if they want to have a good season.
After conceding six at home to Cleethorpes, ‘Sedge shipped five at Worksop.
Tom Jackson, Andrew Wood and Kieran Corley scored for ‘Sedge.

AFC Emley 3-1 Bottesford Town (Report by Luke Marino)

AFC Emley’s 3-1 win over promotion rivals Bottesford Town added to their dream start to their league campaign.
A brace from Doran Jordan, one of which a stunning right footed strike, helped Emley on their way to a maximum two wins in three days and in the process set down an early marker to the rest of the division.
It was a terrific display from Emley who in the space of twenty first-half minutes completely blew their opponents away with their pace and lethal finishing.
Jordan claimed the first with a delicate finish before Jordan Townend squeezed in the second. Then ten minutes later Jordan added another with an arrowed first time shot into the stanch of the top right hand corner.

With both teams targeting promotion come the end of May it was no surprise to see a tight encounter.
But, when Bottesford sent too many players forward in an attack in the 23rd minute and carelessly lost possession Emley were quick to take advantage.
Sam Jerome picked up the loose ball and sent a beautifully weighted pass over the top of an exposed Bottesford back line for Jordan to chase onto. The winger duly obliged to his teammates intentions and lofted the ball over the onrushing Leigh Herrick and into the net.
Jordan nearly scored his second of the evening just eight minutes later after Leonard got to the byline and pulled the ball back for him to take aim.
It was a quick low strike from Jordan but Herrick was equal to the shot as he tipped it round his left hand post.
It was a smart save from the goalkeeper but moments later he was left embarrassed after producing a blunder which allowed Jordan Townend’s low shot to squirm underneath him to make it 2-0.
Bottesford could feel hard done by as they played better than the scoreline suggested, but Emley showed no signs of letting up and grabbed a third on the stroke of half-time.
Again, attacking at pace the front line of Emley proved too much to handle for the visitors defence.
This time Jerome roamed forward and laid a pass into Jordan who was advancing freely into the right hand side of the penalty box.
The perfect weight on the pass allowed Jordan, without breaking stride, to fire into the top left hand corner giving his side a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Terry Barwick did give them slight hope in the 62nd minute when he slotted home a penalty to reduce the deficit but a serious comeback never looked likely.

Teversal 1-4 Knaresborough Town

Will Lenehan headed over early on for Knaresborough to set the tone for the evening in which his team were on top for the majority of the match and really should have seen the points sewn up long before they were.
Knaresborough went ahead in the 31st minute through a very unusual route.
Nick Radcliffe slammed home after Carole’s corner was not cleared out of the area – his first goal since arriving in April 2012.
A lapse in concentration immediately after the interval saw Jimmy Adcock fire wide following a fine one-two move on the edge of the Knaresborough area, but ‘Boro’ soon settled back into their passing game and increased the lead in the 55th minute.
Carole’s free kick was headed back by Lenehan and Heath jumped high to head past Brooks.
Knaresborough then settled into better passing and Heath went close twice before adding the third in the 73rd minute when he ran on to Whitehead’s pass to round Brooks and fire home.
Three substitutions were made and this upset the rhythm of the play giving Adcock the space to fire home a consolation for Teversal in the 81st minute.
Lewis Weaver then beat Paul Hagreen to a through ball and was narrowly wide before Jim Bradley hit home from the edge of the penalty area in the second mnute of added time to make the final score a truer reflection of the play.

Shirebrook Town 1-1 Pontefract Collieries

Andy Catton’s second half equaliser earned Pontefract a point at Shirebrook.
Catton’s goal cancelled out Keiron Watson’s first half strike.

Winterton Rangers 1-6 Rossington Main

Lee Holmes’ hat-trick fired Rossington to a brilliant away victory at struggling Winterton.
The first 10 minutes belonged solely to Winterton who came out firing. Adam Stevens made a string of fine saves tipping over the bar and push a long range shot around the post.
Lee Holmes had a half chance in the box firing straight at the keeper but Main made no mistake on 24 minutes.
Tom Bennett swung in the corner and Zak Oakshott was free to fire home for his first goal for the club. It was soon 2-0 as Lee Holmes was played in down the right by a Jordan Hatton through ball and he confidently slid the ball home under the keeper for his first of the season.
With lack of ball Winterton were becoming frustrated and a bad challenge, on the impressive Brad Billam in midfield, resulted in the referee having no option but the show a straight red card for the Winterton midfielder.
Main didn’t let up Zak Oakshott again free in the box should have got a shot away; on the stroke of half time it was three.
Good work from Brad Bilham down the left saw his cross fall to Jordan Hatton. The midfielder danced past a defender and the keeper to slot home.

Rosso kept up the pace and controlled the game second half.
Lee Holmes grabbing his second on 50 minutes from a Tom Bennett through ball, then on 66 minutes Jordan Hatton fired into the top corner after good work from Lee Holmes.
Main had other chances to add to the tally and were able to give first team debut’s to 17 year old’s Josh Bennett & Jordan Woodhall as well as 16 year old midfielder Danny Marquis.
Danny Marquis nearly scored firing straight at the keeper but Winterton got a consolation through the penalty spot on 80 mins.
Not to be denied Lee Holmes scored his 3rd, Jordan Hatton laying the striker in to complete a brilliant win for the blues.

Hall Road Rangers 1-0 Eccleshil United

Hall Road Rangers took their first three points of the season on Tuesday evening as they entertained Eccleshill United at Dene Park.
Luke Thompson netted his second of the season on 45 minutes, just before the break to give the home side the advantage.
The score line held until the final whistle with Rangers just unable to capitalise on their pressure and possetion where denied by some acrobatic keeper skills and the wood work.
Hall Road manager Lee Hastings said: “Very pleased with the 3 points this evening against a side which continuously asked questions of us, coupled with a never say die attitude.
“That said they didn’t create many clear cut chances at all, but that was mainly down to our fantastic defensive display.
“We had people willing to put their bodies on the line to prevent shots at goal. Overall we had the better opportunities to add to our tally, but the cross bar and some good goal keeping meant we couldn’t add to it.
“There are still bits to work at collectively, but 4 points from our opening 2 games is good start.”
