Stocksbridge Park Steels 1-1 Leek Town
Young defender Reece Fielding rescued a point for Stocksbridge Park Steels minutes after being sent on as a makeshift striker.
Fielding headed home in the first minute of injury-time in the BetVictor South East fixture at Bracken Moor.
Just before coming on Fielding was seen receiving last minute instructions by a whispering Danny Frost, Stocksbridge’s injured star striker, and whatever the advice was, it was of the quality variety.
“Reece was unlucky not to start as he only missed Saturday because he fell ill on the bus, but we didn’t want to change a winning team,” Chris Hilton told Non League Yorkshire.
“We just thought throw him on upfront in case with get any set-plays and you never know because he’s not used to being up there he might do something different.
“He did by getting the equaliser and it is fantastic for the lad.”
A draw was arguably a fair result as both sides were well-matched.
Leek perhaps had the most notable chances as Tim Grice hit the crossbar early doors.
The visitors went in front before half-time with Lewis Short netting into the empty goal after Stocksbridge’s defence had been carved open.
Steels piled the pressure as the game drew to a close. Scott Ruthven rattled the crossbar.
The Steels also escaped conceding a second goal when Grice broke clear and hit the post.
Ultimately Fielding had the last word.
