Super-sub Naidole strikes late as Ammers snatch opening day win

Daniel Naidole was Yorkshire Amateur’s hero

Super-sub Daniel Nadiole was Yorkshire Amateur’s last minute hero as he scored in second half injury-time to hand the East Leeds side an opening day 1-0 victory at AFC Mansfield.

The Ammers’ trip was one of only four games played on the Toolstation NCEL opening weekend because nearly everyone tied up with FA Vase commitments.

The Ammers had enjoyed an array of chances against Mansfield, who themselves had flurries forward despite being reduced to ten men at the start of the second half after Jack Harrison had seen red for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.

The Ammers, whose reputation for late goals is growing, pounced after Fernando Moke teed up Naidole who fired home from the edge of the penalty area.

Ammers’ promotion rivals Bridlington Town smashed Grimsby Borough 5-1 to signal their intentions. Danny Earl, Lewis Taylor, Billy Logan, Chris Jenkinson and Andy Norfolk were on target for Brid.

Aidan Kirby scored early doors for Campion who wasted tons of chances in the first half against Glasshoughton Welfare in Division One. Although Campion held on to win 1-0, they were lucky as Glasshoughton Welfare were fired up for the second half an missed several opportunity.

The other NCEL game saw Dronfield Town win 3-1 at highly-fancied Skegness Town.
