Greenhough made Colls captain

Local lad Jack Greenhough has been appointed as the new club captain of Pontefract Collieries.

Taking out the brief sojourn with Worksop Town in 2020, Greenhough has been a hugely popular figure at Beechnut Lane since bursting on the scene as a young whippersnapper in 2016.

He was an influential right-back as the Colls stunned the local Non League scene by winning consecutive promotions to reach the Northern Premier League for the first time in the club’s history.

Spencer Clarke, who was once the Colls skipper, is to be vice-captain.

Craig Rouse told Pontefract’s website: “Anyone that’s watched Jack over the last four or five seasons will have noticed a marked improvement year on year in his performances, so he deserves this chance to take on the extra responsibility that comes with being club captain and I feel the time is right for him to progress himself further.

“His performances always lead by example and that’s something that we’ll want him to repeat again throughout the coming season.

“He’s a loyal lad who gives his all week in week out for his teammates and I’ve no doubt he’ll do the same for the players off the pitch, which is why he deserves the chance to captain his local club.

“I know he’s proud and excited to take on the role and we can’t wait to see him take the next step with us.”
