Shaw Lane Aquaforce have to cut out defensive mistakes at Liversedge tomorrow.
That’s the message from Craig Elliott, two days after his side lost their Toolstation NCEL Premier Division unbeaten record with the 3-2 defeat to Barton Town Old Boys.
Looking forward to the trip to Liversedge and back to the Barton loss, Elliott said: “We have to defend better.
“Wednesday night was very disappointing.
“We didn’t play well. The result speaks for itself, but I look at the performance and the performance was poor, defensively anyway.
“We made a lot of errors. Every single goal was our fault.
“No disrespect to Barton, I don’t think they scored a good goal against us, it was our mistakes that gifted them the goals.
“I knew it would be a tough because before the game they were bottom of the league. I knew that on paper they have some players and they’re definitely going to be in the top six.
“They’re definitely going to climb the table.”
Shaw Lane have had an excellent start to life in the Premier Division.
They have put six past Pickering Town and Armthorpe Welfare and also beat Staveley Miners Welfare 4-0.
However, Elliott’s admits having all these games under control from the off has not helped.
“That’s the problem and it is something we are going to have to address,” he said.
“We do score a lot of goals and we have games where we’re not tested for long periods.
“We have had two or three games where we have won games by half-time.
“It is difficult to not have the intensity and then have to switch it back on to a game which is difficult.
“We seemed to go flat after 20 minutes against Barton.
“In recent games we have scored one goal after ten minutes and then got another so after 25 minutes games have been won.
“That didn’t come on Wednesday night and we didn’t seem to have a second gear.”
Sam Denton is expected to return from injury.
Elliott, who has signed Jonny Lund and Gareth Clayton recently, also hopes to sign two new players next week.
