Ex-Rotherham star secures opening day win for Frickley

NPL Division One East Round-Up (4)

New Frickley Athletic midfielder Lee Frecklington

Former Rotherham United midfielder Lee Frecklington enjoyed a dream debut for Frickley Athletic as he scored the penalty which handed Dave Frecklington’s new-look side a 1-0 win at North East giants Hebburn Town.

The win stunned the home team as over 400 fans had turned out expecting their team to walk away with the three points.

However, Frecklington has recruited a team of experienced and quality NPL players who won’t roll over.

Although it was not one way traffic, Frickley defended superbly and their reward came on the hour mark.

Brad Wells was tripped inside the penalty area and Frecklington managed to squeeze his effort in just inside the right-hand post.

Frickley had to endure backs to the wall moments but they had chances of their own – notably Josh Burns who missed an open goal.

Frickley survived further danger when captain Danny Burns was sent off in the 95th minute for an off-the-ball incident.

Fortunately the resulting free kick hit the wall.

A late Eddie Church header earned Tadcaster Albion a point after battling back from two goals down against Sheffield FC to draw 2-2.

Junayd Cassius-Gill had got Taddy back into the clash.
