Player Profile – Cameron Clark

He’s only 26 but it feels like Ossett United’s Cameron Clark has been around forever.

Clark, one of the unforgettable Hemsworth Miners Welfare under 19s who played a key role in the club’s Toolstation NCEL Division One title triumph in 2016, has had a great career so far since emerging as a 17-year-old.

Biggest influence on football career

My dad (Stuart), always giving me advice even now. My mum has to get a mention too for all the taxiing she did when I was younger.

Career Highlight

Winning the NCEL Division One title with Hemsworth (in 2016), most of us were mates and had come through the U19s together so that was special.

Most Memorable Game

Has to be fourth Qualifying round of the FA Cup away at Notts County with Belper Town in 2019. What an experience that was. Think there was close to 7000 fans watching and a large amount of them being away fans made for a great atmosphere.

Lowest moment in football

After a couple of injuries I fell out with football for a while & had a few months of not playing. You soon miss it though.

Biggest regret in football

Can’t say I have any regrets.

Funniest moment in football

You can’t beat a good coach journey home after an away win – some funny memories from them.

First semi-professional manager

Wayne Benn (Hemsworth Miners Welfare)

Wayne Benn can’t shake Cameron Clark off!

Non League Debut

It was in the 2012/13 season for Hemsworth, (I started against Hall Green in pre-season but) not actually sure which competitive game it was to be honest!

First Red Card in Non League

FA cup for Hemsworth against Runcorn Linnets (in 2016) I think, not ideal being at the bottom of a 22 man pile on!

First and Best Non League Goal

New Hemsworth manager Shane Kelsey, celebrates with Cameron Clark in 2016

First was a tap-in at the back post in a 4-4 draw against Penistone in 2014/15 season for Hemsworth.

Watch Cameron Clark score a wonder goal for Belper from two minutes, 50 seconds

I don’t score many but the best was against Frickley for Belper a few year ago, down to 10 men and it put us 2-1 up. That season got cancelled but I’ve got the video to still prove it. I wouldn’t say it was a screamer but a good goal for a left back and me. Intercepted the ball near our 18 yard box, ran with it up until their 18, played a little 1-2 with Alex Peterson and then think I megged the keeper / slid it under him.

What do you want to achieve in football in the future?

Sounds cheesy but enjoyment is the main thing for me now. Obviously wherever you’re at you also want to be challenging for promotion/ silverware or what’s the point? So we’ll see where this season takes us, it’s still early days yet.

Favourite Non League Ground

Belper Town – Quality set up and always improving.
