Farsley Celtic are looking for a new manager after Adam Lakeland quit to take over at his old club Curzon Ashton.
Former Halifax Town striker Neil Ross, the club’s under 23s and academy boss, will take charge of the Farsley for this weekend’s trip to Chorley.
Lakeland’s departure ends his four incredibly successful years at Throstle Nest.
Lakeland won the West Riding County Cup in 2018 before guiding them to the NPL Premier Division title the following year despite huge competition from North East giants South Shields.
Lakeland was first team coach of Curzon during the John Flanagan years which saw back-to-back promotions to the National North so his ties to the Tameside-based club are strong.
Farsley chief executive Josh Greaves said: “Adam has made the decision to move to Curzon Ashton for a fresh challenge, and I would like to place on record mine and the club’s genuine thanks and gratitude to Adam for all his hard work and efforts with the club over the last four years.
“Adam has worked tirelessly to build a successful squad and progress the club into a stronger position than it was in when he took over four years ago.
“The Board and I would like to wish Adam all the best at Curzon Ashton.
“Also departing the club is Mark Bett, who had two successful spells at the club as a player before joining as Adam’s assistant, and we would like to thank him for all his efforts, and the Board and I wish him all the best in his next chapter.”
The club is now inviting applicants for the vacant position of First Team Manager, and those interested should send applications by email, with an attached CV, to jgreaves@farsleyceltic.com.
Personally I always had Lakeland down as ambitious, so with no real connection to club nor area (he’s from lancs) am not surprised to see him leave. I DID have him pegged as moving ‘up’ the pyramid however – Stockport job? Alti, if that became available, as they are confs jobs. A move that is sideways, at best, strikes me as odd. He did alienate a lot of supporters with his arguing/backing for the ridiculous kit & badge changes at Throstle Nest. Probly never got some back onside, in truth.
Adam Lakeland did a decent job for us. However some good players have been allowed to leave and we have ended up having to get them back in subsequently. Whether these were entirely his decision or not, we will never know. He certainly portrayed them as HIS call. Lewis Turner, Tom Allan etc. I would also put Ben Atkinson in that category too, and seeing as he is doing v well at Liversedge, would not have been shocked to see him re-appear at Throstle Nest in the coming months. Even more likely if the current Sedge boss gets the Celts job.
