Walton scores dramatic winner as ‘Sedge come back from 2-0 down to cause upset

FA Trophy First Round

Liversedge 3-2 Basford United

Liversedge hero Joe Walton

Joe Walton sparked scenes of jubilation as his last minute winner as Liversedge incredibly came from 2-0 down to cause another major upset in the FA Trophy in front of an amazing crowd of 808.

The victory, arguably the pinnacle of Jonathan Rimmington’s reign so far, puts ‘Sedge in the second round draw alongside some major Non League clubs.

Higher league Basford raced into an early two-goal lead to give ‘Sedge a mountain to climb.

Former Newport County and Luton Town striker Aaron O’Connor placed Basford in front after just six minutes.

Marcus Marshall then scored from the edge of the penalty area.

But with the never-say-die attitude they have, ‘Sedge were never going to lie down.

Walton and Nicky Walker enabled captain Jack Stockdill to bring them back into it with a close range finish.

The scores were level by half-time.

Former Farsley Celtic star Paul Walker sent a rocket of a free kick into the top right corner to equalise.

Basford’s cause wasn’t helped by the dismissal of Marshall for kicking out at Kurt Harris on the stroke of half-time.

‘Sedge enjoyed second half chances but it wasn’t until the death when the magic moment arrived.

That came when Walton leapt to head home.
