FA Trophy Third Round
The son of one of Farsley Celtic’s 1974 FA Cup legends made his debut for the Celts in the FA Trophy to Southport.
Matty Ingham played the entire 90 minutes of the 3-0 defeat to Southport alongside several debutants in depleted Farsley’s team.
Ingham is the son of John who was a star winger in the Farsley team which reached the FA Cup First Round for the first time in the club’s history in the seventies.
Farsley played Tranmere Rovers – whose side contained Steve Coppell – at Elland Road in front of over 11,000 people.
The Celts lost 2-0 to Tranmere and the match remains up there as one of the club’s greatest moments.
Farsley have only ever reached the FA Cup First Round proper twice – in 1974 and 2006.
Matty Ingham, whose dad also enjoyed success at Emley during his playing career, plays for Farsley’s academy.
Also making their debuts were fellow academy players Sam Drake, dual-registered Maltby Main striker Reggie Ward and Louis Fialdini.
New signing Amos Kabeya also made his first start for Farsley whose side was left threadbare by injuries, suspensions, covid cases.
Only seven senior players were available to Neil Ross.
Jordan Archer put Southport ahead in the first half and goals from Niall Watson and Douglas Tame in the second half sealed the win.
Farsley sustained a further blow as Tom Allan was sent off after receiving two yellow cards.
Mark Beck scored deep into injury-time as York City won 1-0 at Matlock Town.
Beck headed in Scott Barrow’s free kick to return York to winning way after two games without a win.
