NPL Division One East
Brighouse Town manager Vill Powell has praised his star striker Laurence Sorhaindo.
Sorhaindo is second in the top goal-scorers chart with 13 goals behind Marske United’s former York City forward Adam Boyes.
“Laurence’s form is top draw,” Powell told Non League Yorkshire.
“Obviously he’s currently the second top goal-scorer in the league and rightly so.
“He’s worked hard.
“When he first came in (from Silsden) he was a bit tentative and I just said to him ‘back yourself, have confidence in yourself because you’ve got all the attributes to be one of the best in the league’.
“He’s done that and he’s showing it this season.
“Long may it continue.”
Brighouse need Sorhaindo to be in good form for the next game – the home clash with unbeaten leaders Liversedge on Monday afternoon.
Powell expects his men to face an epic battle.
“They are an old school aggressive side,” he said.
“I have been to watch them a few times and they are not as pretty on the eye as a Marske or Dunston.
“They don’t necessarily play football but what they will do is battle you and fight you.
“They have old school centre-forwards who are all elbows, heads and shoulders.
“They have a strong back four who are all physical.
“Their main strength is their physicality with a bit of class in Walker who can hurt you with his pace and guile.
“Then they have finishers throughout the squad.
“To get anywhere near them we are going to have to get in the physical battle and get in the trenches with them.
“It is going to be nasty and blood and guts.
“It has to be and we have to match the physicality because if we don’t we’ll get rolled over – it is that simple.”
To put ‘Sedge to the sword would be an outstanding but Powell is not getting caught up in the razzmatazz of the potential achievement.
“To beat Liversedge and be the first team to do it or the last team to do it or just to do it is irreverent really,” he said.
“It is a derby and there’s no more meaning to it other than three points to us.
“There’s a lot more pressure on them for the result because of the resources they put into it.
“For us we’re going to give it everything we have got as we always do and see what happens.
“Clearly we want to win the game but not because it is Liversedge.
“There’ll be more needle to it because it is a local game but in terms of firsts and all that I’ll be quite blunt. It means nothing.”
Although Brighouse won at Dunston in their last outing, their quest to reach the play-offs is harder as fifth-placed Stockton Town have a seven point lead.
However, Powell is not giving up on his top five hopes.
“There’s still a lot to do and a lot of points on the board for those teams above us,” he said.
“It is nice to be looking above us and thinking we have half a chance or a chance.
“For us it is case of knocking on the door as long we can and see what happens.
“There’s a lot of football to be played.”
