Garforth Town boss Paul Marshall was touched by the presentation to mark his 1000th game in management.
That’s despite his wife missing it!
Garforth’s dramatic 1-1 draw with Penistone Church was his 1000th game and his wife, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law were watching on.
“It was nice for the family to see (my 1000th game),” Marshall told Non League Yorkshire.
“It would have been nice if we had got the win but they’re all happy.
“The wife missed the presentation to me because they were parking the car up and couldn’t get in the ground in time.
“She said ‘we saw Joe Colley (get his memento for 100 games)’.
“I said ‘I was before Joe Colley’.
“It is fine and it was nice to get a presentation from Garforth.”
One positive was that it was warm enough for his wife!
But Marshall also added that the draw summed up how stressful it is as manager.
“I just don’t how I have stayed so fit and healthy after 1000 games when you have numerous games like that,” he said.
“It is very stressful when you’re a manager.
“As much as I’m a laidback kind of guy, it does stress me out.
“It is a lot harder than playing football.”
Marshall joins an exclusive club which contains the likes of ex-Marine boss Roly Howard and legendary manager John Reed.
