‘Sedge boss expects more twists and turns in title race

NPL Division One East

Liversedge manager Jonathan Rimmington

Jonathan Rimmington expects more twists and turns in Liversedge’s riveting battle with Marske United for the title.

‘Sedge currently hold top spot but Marske United have a game-in-hand and the North East giants will return to the summit if they beat Hebburn Town this afternoon.

‘Sedge have four matches left and one of the deciding fixtures will be when they visit Marske in mid-April.

“For me, I don’t think there is a favourite,” Rimmington told Non League Yorkshire.

“I think it is all nip and tuck now.

“There’s going to be twists and turns and it could go right down to the last game of the season.

“I think they have a little advantage of the two points if they win their game-in-hand.

“Have they got easier games to play? I don’t think they have.

“We beat them so they’ll be conscious of us as much as we’re conscious of them (when we play them).

“I remember their manager saying we were the only team to bully them in three years.

“Whether we do that in that game remains to be seen but we have to stand up and be counted.

“I think that will be one of the deciding games but on the Monday they have to go to Stockton on the astroturf which isn’t going to be easy but we have Brighouse which won’t be easy.

“If we win four games we’ll win the league.

“That’s what we have got to aim for.

“We have done it before so we can do it again.”

Liversedge returned to the top thanks to the 3-1 win at Pickering Town where they left it late.

“It should have been done in the first half really,” Rimmington said.

“It should have been three or four-nil at half-time but they equalised.

“In the first 15 minutes we should have been two-or-three up.

“Their ‘keeper is a very good goalkeeper and he did well.

“(The second goal) was always going to come.”

If ‘Sedge do win promotion, the club, the fastest-growing Non League club in the area, is ready to make the step-up to the NPL Premier Division on the ground-front.

Rimmington says Clayborn looks completely different now.

“I think the club has never been in a position we are at the minute,” he said.

“We have just had the ground grading visit and we’ve passed which is massive.

“You wouldn’t believe what has been done at the club, it is unbelievable.

“Full credit to the people at the club.

“You wouldn’t recognise the place.

“It hasn’t been all about the team (this season), it has been about the infrastructure as well.

“The ground has moved miles in the last year.”
