EV2 Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League Round-Up
Premier Division
Young gun Ethan Kenny was Wombwell Main’s last minute hero as he fired them to an unforgettable 2-1 win over leaders Swinton Athletic.
The shock result sends shockwaves around the league and provides the latest twist in the title race between Swinton, Wakefield AFC and Dodworth Miners Welfare.
Terry Simon’s Wombwell had eight teenagers in the side which makes defeating a strong Swinton side even more remarkable.
Simon’s masterplan of bringing youth through this season is certainly proving to be a masterstroke and Wombwell are back in fifth place with four games to go.
His side showed huge character to mount a second half comeback.
Swinton had been leading at the break as Justin Greenwood had found the net.
Young forward Bailey Cowsell scored Wombwell’s equaliser and it was left Kenny to spark scenes of jubilation in the closing stages.
Wakefield are five points behind Swinton with a game-in-hand after the 4-0 win at relegated High Green Villa.
Jake Morrison walked off with the match-ball as he hit a hat-trick.
Mason Rubie was also on the score-sheet.
Jack Owen was a hat-trick hero Dodworth who eased to their 5-1 win over doomed Jubilee Sports.
A long-range net-buster, a diving header and a clever finish earned the former Nostell Miners Welfare star his treble.
An intelligent header and cross from substitute and his younger brother Liam set up captain Aaron Brotherton for the fourth goal.
Brotherton slid home his second strike of the day after the Jubilee defence fell asleep from Danny Barlow’s well-worked set-piece.
Jubilee did make it 2-1 at one stage but Dodworth never looked like surrendering their lead.
Darren Young’s side had plenty of chances.
Evergreen Calan Rollinson went close on a couple of occasions, Barlow nearly scored from a free kick and Connor Rollinson missed by the target by a matter of inches with a long range screamer.
Ecclesfield Red Rose 1915 and Penistone Church Reserves shared the points after a 1-1 draw at Hillsborough College.
Scott Whittington haunted his former club by scoring for Ecclesfield.
Darren Hepworth’s Hepworth United have given themselves a chance of pulling out of the relegation zone after the 2-1 win over Stocksbridge Park Steels Reserves.

Ambitious Silkstone United are the Division Two champions after winning 4-2 at Wakefield AFC under 23s.
Ex-Penistone Church striker Lewis Dickinson grabbed two alongside defender Andy McManus and William Heath’s goals to secure the title.
With a side oozing quality with Non League stars such as Mike Brearley, McManus, Gaz Hunter, Dickinson and showman Ryan Poskitt were many’s favourite for the crown.
