Fearon scores pivotal goal as Liversedge effectively clinch title

NPL Division One East

Liversedge 1-1 Brighouse Town

Liversedge striker Ollie Fearon

Super-sub Ollie Fearon fired home the season-defining equaliser as Liversedge all but clinched the title.

Marske United’s failure to beat their rivals Stockton Town means only unlikely results on final day will prevent Liversedge from becoming champions.

‘Sedge are three points clear of Marske with a far superior goals difference.

‘Sedge deserve their crown as they have been absolutely brilliant and relentless throughout the season.

Jonathan Rimmington’s men have only lost once in the league – although that record was under threat when Brighouse stunned the 1235 people watching by taking the lead in the 25th minute.

Darius Smith was the party-pooper with a tap-in.

Rimmington threw caution to the wind as the hour approached and his decision paid off.

Just three minutes after coming on, Fearon smashed home from inside the penalty area.

‘Sedge can now go to Worksop Town on Saturday knowing the trophy will be waiting for them.
