Prodigal son Danny Barlow has been in red hot form since returning to Dodworth Miners Welfare

Prodigal son Danny Barlow struck twice as Dodworth Miners Welfare took advantage of leaders Swinton Athletic failing to win to ensure the pulsating title race continues to throw up twists.

Dodworth are back in the frame thanks to artist Barlow who displayed his craft with a spectacular free kick to break the deadlock in the 2-0 victory at Stocksbridge Park Steels Reserves.

Ex-Shaw Lane Aquaforce star Barlow has now scored seven times in seven fixtures since his much-heralded return from Swinton.

As it stands, Dodworth will need to win their remaining five fixtures and overhaul Swinton’s goal difference tally to lift the crown.

Wakefield AFC have a very real chance themselves and their games against Swinton next week and Dodworth on the 14th May are likely to have a big say in the destination of the title.

Swinton had to settle for a point in their midweek fixture as they drew 1-1 with Penistone Church Reserves.

Jordan Machen scored for Penistone.

Highly-rated Houghton Main captain James Byford

Donovan Cotton’s dream start as interim Houghton Main manager continued as his men won 2-1 against Sheffield Town FC.

Highly-rated inspirational captain James Byford and young Harry Steeple scored the goals.

Wombwell Main star Atley Jackson

Terry Simon’s Wombwell Main young guns remain fourth after the 4-0 victory over Jubilee Sports.

Atley Jackson (2), Bailey Cowsell and Kieran Hirst netted.

Ougtibridge War Memorial strengthened their top five hopes with the 1-0 defeat of North Gawber.

Wombwell Town edged closer to promotion after winning 3-0 at Caribbean Sports.

Eddie Agnew (2), Will Harling and Brad Kerr scored.

Seven points from their remaining five games should see them over-the-line due to their superior goals difference over South Kirkby Colliery.
