Harrogate Railway boss Billy Miller has praised his star playmaker Robbie Youhill following the 1-1 draw with Farsley AFC yesterday.
Although it was goalkeeper Peter Crook who stole the headlines after two penalty saves, Youhill’s contribution was just as important.
Former Harrogate Town man Youhill scored Railway’s equaliser and in the final minute ran from his own half and somehow beat off at least four Farsley defenders before crossing for Nathan Cartman to score.
Unfortunately for Railway and Youhill, the goal was controversially chalked off for offside, but Miller was delighted with his display and gave him a glowing reference.
“I have to say that Rob Youhill had his best game of the season,” he said.
“He looked in unbelievable and there were times when he was almost unplayable.
“We spoke to Robbie about his consistency and making sure he delivers performance after performance. The good thing with Robbie is that he works hard.
“He is a thinker and intelligent so you can have a really good conversation with him about a game. He works with me at Askern Bryan College and runs the College football team and I think all that has enhanced his football education.
“He knows and understands the game.”
Railway, who host Kendal Town tomorrow, are well on course to achieve Miller’s primary objective of Evo Stik Division One North survival. Miller also claims that Station View is beginning to be a difficult place for teams to come and pick up points.
Miller added: “The pressure from the club is to keep it in the league and in the second year (in charge) we wanted to make teams know that if they’re going to come to Station View then they will have to work really hard if they want to win.
“No longer is it ‘Station View, its Harrogate Railway, its three points today’. Teams have to have the right attitude.
“For us it’s all about installing belief and belief that we’re good enough. I think yesterday’s result will help that massively. I don’t think Kendal will come and think it is an easy three points.
“We wanted 30 points by Boxing Day and we’ve got 28 so we’re two adrift. We have probably dropped points when we shouldn’t have.
“We’re just over the halfway mark and I think the next target for us is making sure that going into next season that Harrogate Railway are classed as a club good enough to play in this league and not yo-yoing around the bottom.”
