Harrogate Railway’s quest to finish in their highest ever league position received a huge boost after a 4-0 win over Burscough at Station View.
Adam Baker scored twice late-on to back up strikes from Malachi Farquharson and Matt Heath in the first half of the Evo Stik Division One North.
Fielding debutant Vincent Dhesi, also a Tadcaster player, Railway tore into their visitors. Dhesi’s pass allowed Farquharson to score with an easy finish after just 22 minutes.
Former Leeds United defender Matt Heath doubled the lead by showing the prowess of a striker with a cool effort inside the penalty area after a scramble.
Burscough had a good deal of pressure for 20 minutes of the second half, but were unable to pull a goal back.
Baker, who has been in great form recently, was a menace to Burscough and he got his name on the score-sheet in the 83rd minute.
He raced through to score then and he did the same in the dying seconds to add Railway’s fourth.
Harrogate Railway assistant manager Lee Ashforth:
“It was a fantastic performance today and we put on a really good show.
“The pitch was really difficult, but we managed to get a two-goal advantage by half-time and we felt we could have had a couple more.
“Obviously we said at half-time that the next goal was massively important and we came out and weathered the storm, although they didn’t have any real clear-cut chances.
“From that we got another couple of goals and came away with a really good 4-0 win.”
