Apart from Hallam manager Ryan Hindley’s hotel nightmare, the Toolstation Northern Counties East League AGM weekend in Scarborough went without a hitch.
Disgruntled Hindley started off in one hotel and quickly moved to stay in the Royal, the superb hosts for the AGM.
While he was writing his review for TripAdviser, league chairman David Morrall was guiding the member clubs through the AGM.
It lasted just 45 minutes with the highly-publicised Division One play-offs proposals being passed with an overwhelming majority.
The presentation night got underway at 7.30pm and Mr Morrall added further good news. Introducing the guests from Toolstation, he announced that the league sponsors have extended the deal to until 2019 at increased rates. The sponsorship deal was scheduled to run out next year.
The three course meal was then served before the awards were handed out. Fair play winners, League Cup winners, the numerous County Cup winners and runners-up and winners picked up their awards.
The final team to collect their trophy was Shaw Lane Aquaforce and it was a emotional moment. Aquaforce chairman Craig Wood missed the evening bash two years ago as his club were infamously rejected at the AGM. Because of ill health, he was unable to attend last year’s presentation night. Along with secretary Dave Exley, Mr Wood went up to collect the Premier Division trophies and received a huge cheer as he bid farewell to the NCEL ahead of their campaign in the Evo Stik League in August.
The night finished with comedian Malcolm Lord and his victim Peter Lang entertaining the room before everyone was left to dance the away at the seaside.
