Paul Hagreen is in pole position to become the new number one goalkeeper at Brighouse Town.
Hagreen played in the 7-1 win over Eccleshill United on Friday night and has signed for the Evo Stik Division One North.
It marks a return to Brighouse for Hagreen, who came through the under 19s at the club and played in the first team before moving onto play for Liversedge, Glasshoughton, Knaresborough and Garforth in the last few years.
Brighouse need a new stopper as Jacob Giles is not able to commit to every game this season.
Paul Quinn told Non League Yorkshire: “He’s committed for the season and we’re pleased with that.
“With Tom Metcalfe (who also played in goal against Eccleshill) we had very high recommendations about him from his time with Field so we’re having a look at him as well. Tom’s got to prove himself over the next few games.
“But Paul has signed for the season and the jersey is his for the taking.
“I’ve known Paul for a long time and when I arrived he was here. He was then a young player who wanted first team football and we didn’t feel he was quite ready for that.
“He’s gone away and got football team experience in. He’s a big presence and when there was a situation with Jacob, he was the first person I picked up the phone to.
“We feel he has that experience now.”
Evo Stik Division One North side Brighouse Town host National League neighbours FC Halifax Town at the Dual Seal Stadium on Tuesday night.
It gives Quinn another chance to run the rule over his trialists which include former Bradford City youngster Lewis Horne.
Quinn added: “We’re close to couple of other signings.
“We have not finalised Lewis Horne’s signature, but we’re close with that.
“He’s not played football for 12 months, but I think we saw enough on Friday night in terms of what he can do from his experiences with Bradford City and Scarborough.
“The other one is James Pollard who has just been released by Bradford City.
“We’re hoping to get him next week.”
