Westella VIP thrashed Appleby Frodingham in their first pre-season friendly

Westella VIP visited local Scunthorpe side Appleby Frodingham on Wednesday evening in their first pre season friendly fixture and came away with a resounding 6-1 victory.

Manager Leon Sewell utilised his full playing squad available playing two different sides including some new faces featuring in both halves of the game.

New signing Danny Holiday made a great impact with 2 minutes on the clock cooly slotting past the on rushing keeper.

Lewis Andrews made it 2-0 on 15 minutes reacting quickly to a second ball finding the back of the net from 18 yards out.

Alex Wood getting the third on the stroke of half time expertly dinking the keeper for 3-0.

Mike Pecora made it 4-0 on 51 minutes been alert to a short goal kick intercepting the ball and finding the bottom corner, shortly after another new face, Matty Littlewood found himself in space after Westella VIP pushed the hosts back and with a great first touch Littlewood set himself up to fire home for 5-0.

20 minutes remaining Pecora got his second of the night albeit with a little bit of luck as his deflected shot looped over the keeper and into the back of the net for 6-0.

Credit to Appleby Frodingham they continued to play in the right manner and where rewarded with 10 minutes to go as their captain leaped highest from a free kick heading back across goal for 6-1.

“Tonight was a great exercise for all the players and I’m really pleased with how last season’s players and all the new players integrated so well showing some good passing football with excellent fitness level.

“It’s valuable game time the lads have got under their belts from the game and it will stand us in good stead as we head to NCEL Premier side Athersley Recreation on Saturday afternoon.”
