Eric Gilchrist believes Ossett Albion are close to finalising their squad for the new Evo Stik Division One North season.

Former Liversedge forward Gib Bojang is the latest figure to pledge their future to Albion after a flurry of transfer activity at Dimple Wells.

Ossett have already recruited Matt Dempsey, Danny South, Eddy Birch and Rob Bordman during the summer and Gilchrist believes the squad is almost complete.

“We have just about got what we wanted,” said Gilchrist, who is Richard Tracey’s assistant.

“We identified areas of the pitch where we needed to bring people in. We’re still looking for a couple more and we would like a bit of pace in the team.

“We’re pretty much sorted defensively with Matt Dempsey, Wes Milnes and Dominic Riordan.

“In central midfield, Birchy has come and we have Josh Wright, who we are hoping might sign in the next couple of days.

“We still have Adam Jones and Adam Muller and we’ve brought in Gib Bojang who I had at Liversedge, but played local football last season.

“Upfront we have brought Danny South in and he gives us a totally different dimension to what we had last year with Connor Bower.

“We also Rob Bordman back as well.”

Ossett are waiting to see if star striker Connor Bower is given a contract at Vanarama National League North side Harrogate Town

Bower was arguably one of the signings in the Division One North last season as his goals steered Albion to safety.

The striker, who was actually signed from rivals Ossett Town, has trained with Harrogate since the start of pre-season and has played in their opening friendlies.

“He told us in the summer that he wanted to give it a try and I know Richard (Tracey) has spoken to Simon Weaver on a few occasions to find out how he is progressing,” Gilchrist added.

“We will wait and see if it works out for Connor. If it does then it is great because we have played a part in his development.

“If it doesn’t, he always has the option to come back to us on loan or on a permanent basis.

“He was a big signing for us last season and the one thing about him is that he is rapid and he will trouble any defence at any level because of his pace.

“His pace will frighten people at all levels with the right service.”

Albion are next in action on Tuesday 28th July when they host Bradford (Park Avenue) at Dimple Wells.
