Joe Thornton’s phone will be busy this afternoon after his shock departure from Tadcaster Albion because of travelling difficulties.
The Barnsley-based striker held his hands up this afternoon to say the pressure of travelling up the M1 was too much.
Thornton had been an instant hit with the Brewers following two goals on his competitive debut in the 6-3 demolition of Maltby Main on Saturday.
He leaves just 24 hours before the Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie at Hebburn Town.
Thornton said: “I would like to thank Billy (Miller) and everybody at Tad for giving me the opportunity to represent such a well-supported club, but I’ve got to put my children and partner first.
“Tad have been brilliant and are a top club. I knew that the travelling was going to be a bit of a struggle, but it has been a lot harder than I imagined. I need to move to a club nearer to home.”
Thornton was a Toolstation NCEL Premier Division title winner last season with Shaw Lane Aquaforce.
He has also played for Ossett Albion, Staveley Miners Welfare and Athersley Recreation.
