Ossett Albion are exactly on schedule in the Evo Stik Division One North after the first month, according to Richard Tracey.

Albion are eighth after collecting eight points from their opening five games to the season – the most recent win being the Ossett derby on Bank Holiday Monday.

Albion, who have only lost once,  visit Northwich Victoria tomorrow and Tracey is full of pride about his team’s start.

“We’re delighted (with the start) and actually disappointed to have been beaten at Witton,” Tracey told Non League Yorkshire.

“It was a bit like Bank Holiday Monday as Witton set off like a house on fire and we rode out 30 minutes before dominating the game.

“Unfortunately Kieron, who the winner on Monday, intercepted a ball and rolled it back to the goalkeeper. Unfortunately Alex Titchiner caught it and nipped round the goalkeeper and scored.

“We were a bit unlucky there, but then we outplayed Glossop. We should have got a better result that day.

“Burscough was a bit chalk and cheese. We battered them and they battered us.

“Where we need to do to improve to make sure we’re competitive is to start playing for 90 minutes, not 45, 60 minutes.

“However, I think we are where we should be and it is where we targeted to be.

“September is incredibly difficult as there isn’t a gimme at all in there. But, as I’ve always said, it is about getting safe and seeing where we go from there.

“I would say though that the team I inherited to what we have now, we are streets ahead.

“The other positive is that the squad has a really good average age to it.

“That’s positive because if we can keep these players together, Albion is going to be moving forward for the next few years.”

Tracey has also been pleased with his side’s defending as Albion have only conceded three goals.

He does see room for improvement though.

He added: “It has been one of my big frustrations that we haven’t worked goalkeepers enough in games.

“First and foremost though, if we can win games 1-0, we’ll win games 1-0.

“The first thing I said at the last pre-season game against Stocksbridge was that we had to make playing at Dimple Wells difficult for other teams.

“We have conceded one goal in four games at home so I’m delighted with that.”
