Armthorpe Welfare are into the Emirates FA Cup second qualifying round for the first time since 2006 after a sensational 4-3 win at AFC Liverpool.

Armthorpe will find out the identity of their next opponents today and Brian Johnston’s men could potentially meet the likes of Harrogate Town, Bradford (Park Avenue) and FA Trophy winners North Ferriby United.

The FA Cup dream appeared to have died after just 13 minutes as Ryan Cox and Steve Jones had given the home side a strong 2-0 lead.

David Buck gave them a way back close to half-time before goalkeeper Leigh Overton made the save of the game to deny Liverpool from scoring a third.

That stop was worth the prize money of £3,000 as it inspired Armthorpe’s fightback.

Jon Mirfin struck the equaliser and Kieran Benson went onto strike a sweet volley to incredibly put Armthorpe in front.

If Armthorpe’s supporters weren’t in dreamland at this point they soon were as predatory striker Joe Lumsden scored their fourth.

James Handley hit the crossbar as Armthorpe pursued a fifth.

A injury-time from Cox gave Liverpool hope, but Armthorpe held-on to keep the flag for the Toolstation Northern Counties East League.
