Long-serving Neil Aspin has been relieved of his duties at FC Halifax Town after a poor start to the Vanarama National League season.

The Shaymen have only won once in their opening ten games and the 2-1 defeat at Guiseley on Tuesday night was the final straw.

However, the former Harrogate Town boss leaves a huge mark at the club.

After taking over in 2009, Aspin led Halifax back to the top flight of Non League with three promotions in four years.

He also guided them into the first round proper of the FA Cup on two occasions. Both matches – against Charlton Athletic and Bradford City – were shown live on television.

Aspin also signed Jamie Vardy from Stocksbridge Park Steels. Vardy earned Halifax a lot of money because he was soon to Fleetwood Town for a substantial sum.

Chief scout Gareth McClelland, the former Mossley manager, takes charge of the visit of Southport on Saturday.
