Westella VIP won 5-2 at Rossington Main
Westella VIP made the journey to Doncaster rivals Rossington Main on Saturday and returned home with a resounding 5-2 victory producing back to back victories.
The visitors made a great start to the game, from kick off the ball was played forward and ended up in a quick throw-in, Rob Dodson threw the ball in to Callum Harrison and on the turn Harrison drew the first shot and save of the game with barely one minute on the clock.
Two minutes later and Joe McFadyen found the back of the net with a sublime reaction finish in the six yard area after Harrison had flicked the ball on for him to put Westella in the lead.
Westella maintained a barrage on the hosts goal but to no avail until the 11th minute when McFadyen was again proving to hot to handle for the Rossington defence as he fired in his and Westella’s second of the match firing through a crowded area and past the keeper.
Westella briefly took their eye off the game and saw themselves under pressure for a period of time, despite some fine defending from the Westella back four it then became the turn of Nathan Otley in the Westella goal to produce four great saves in a twenty minute spell denying and opportunity the hosts created with many long range efforts of the Westella goal.
After 35 minutes played Westella played some neat attacking football with numerous players contributing rotating the ball, with a neat final through ball, the returning Andy Coverdale coolly lifted his right foot shot over the advancing keeper for 3-0.
On the stroke of half time Westella failed to keep the ball in the Rossington half from a corner, a counter attack from Rossington saw two blocks from Williamson with the ball falling to player-manager Lee Holmes who fired in a great effort from the edge of the box for 3-1.
Within the first two minutes of the re-start Westella had two great chances, first up, Coverdale crossed for the on-coming Spinks who volleyed narrowly wide of the Rossington goal, Spinks then turned provider for Callum Harrison who fired wired.
On the hour mark Harrison had another shot save by the legs of the Rossington keeper.
With 78 minutes on the clock Rossington pulled a goal back, a goal mouth scramble saw Westella unable to clear their lines and at the second chance Marcel Chipamaunga fired home from close range.
Rob Petch made an instant impact to the game and produced a sublime finish lobbing the Rosington keeper from a tight angle for 4-2.
Right on the stroke of 90 minutes, Chris Spinks got himself on the score sheet after some neat inter-linking play as he rounded two players and picked his spot for 5-2.

“We knew that we had to put instant pressure on Rossington from the off and we did so in abundance with some early shots on target, two of which Joe McFadyen took very well.
”I thought we played ok in the first half but we didn’t look after the ball as well as we should be doing.
“The second half was all about managing the game and moving Rossington around which we did, we created a hat full of chances and should of had more goals on paper but the attitudes and character from the lads was second to none and we showed our quality on the ball.
“We must maintain our levels now, especially as we take on Grimsby Borough this Wednesday evening, consistency is key in us moving further up the table where we can.”
