Despite playing with ten men for the last half hour, Stocksbridge Park Steels managed to win 2-1 at Clitheroe in the FA Trophy Preliminary Round.

It was a new signing that put the Steels ahead in the first half. Scott Ruthven, signed at the last minute, took advantage of a mistake to score on his debut.

Clitheroe equalised before half-time as Scott Bakkor scored from close range.

The winner arrived ten minutes into the second half when Rory Coleman struck with a deflected free kick.

Richard Patterson, captain for the day in place of the suspended Lee Garside, was then dismissed for a lunging tackle on Bakkor.

However, Chris Hilton’s men held on to secure their place in the next round.

Stocksbridge Park Steels: D Reay, Meade, Coleman, Patterson (captain), McFadyen, M Reay, Fox, Biggins, Ruthven, Gregory, Poulton. Subs: Hinchliffe, Critchlow, Cardwell, Thompson, Laight.
Referee: T Kirk
Attendance: 186
