Let’s have an FA Cup run this year lads.
That’s the message from Farsley AFC assistant manager Mark Jackson ahead of the visit of Athersley Recreation to Throstle Nest.
Farsley will host the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side in the Preliminary Round and are bidding to reach the First Qualfiying Round for only the second time as a reformed club.
Asked what the FA Cup meant to Farsley, Jackson said: “There are two different things.
“For the players, it is the prestige of playing in it. For the club, it is financial, no bones about it.
“Having lost out on Leeds and Bradford City in pre-season, we have not really had a money-spinner.
“The club have been good to us in regards to backing us financially, but, we need to repay that now.
He added: “We’ve given them the task of progressing in a few rounds of the FA Cup.
“They are a league below us and I know one of my friends (Albion Sports head coach) Pav (Singh) has come up against them.
“He seems to think they have had a lot of changes.
“When you’re playing teams like Athersley, it is a step into the unknown, but, what we try and focus on is the group here and what we do.”
Farsley go into the FA Cup full of confidence after three consecutive wins in the Evo Stik Division One North.
The treble of victories was the perfect response to the opening day 3-0 defeat at Lancaster and Jackson said: “I don’t think the Lancaster game went wrong from the start.
“I think we conceded goals at the wrong time as conceded before half-time and just after and that killed us. They are a good team and they will be up there.
“To bounce back from a first day defeat is difficult and we gave the lads a task.
“We didn’t hold back, we told them we wanted nine points out of the next three games.
“Credit goes to every single one of them as they have delivered on the nine points.
“It is a big ask at any level, especially with the Bank Holiday games of two games in three days.”
